Brown Eyed Girl
Past and Present. Daughter and Mother. Black and White. In 2018, in Saint Augustine, Florida, Jillianne Tamillo was asked to leave a facility out of the back entrance because of a pro-confederate monument protest happening just outside. In 1982, in a small Florida town, Ann Tamillo and Johnny Matthews were asked to leave an arcade because of their interracial relationship. Through monologues and scenes transcribed from Jillianne's interviews with Ann, Brown Eyed Girl vividly details the harsh realities of race and injustice in Florida, and America at large. How much are we individuals vs. what society makes us to be? How can we move forward in a society that always finds itself too blinded by ignorance to move? This striking autobiographical drama explores these questions and more in a striking yet accessible drama. Presented by Lightup Shoebox as part of the Orlando Fringe Winter Mini Fest in Downtown Orlando
