George Nock: Breaking Barriers

The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens is pleased to share the George Nock: Breaking Barriers exhibition, which will run May 9 - August 20, 2023. We are honored to partner with The George and Mary Nock Foundation to present a retrospective exposition of George Nock’s artwork and celebrate his contributions as an artist, athlete, and barrier breaker. An accomplished artist and former NFL running back, Nock devoted his life to the creation of realistic figures in bronze.

His final work, Barrier Breakers, commemorates the first racially integrated Little League game in the South, played in 1955 at Orlando's Lorna Doone Park.  This iconic sculpture is a fitting culmination of the career of the man who embodied courage and grace in his own role in history.  As a 1966 Morgan State University football team member, Nock also broke racial barriers, playing in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, helping the team become the first historically black college team to win an integrated bowl game
