I have baked and decorated cakes for over 30 years; and almost 6 years ago, I transitioned into making solely "faux" cakes. Faux cakes offered me and opportunity to create luxurious works of art at a fraction of the cost of traditionally baked cakes, along with the capability to adorn them with materials (crystals, pearls, feathers, metals, etc.) not allowed on food products. My cakes are beautiful keepsakes that last for years, and they transition from event to the home (ex. baby shower to baby nursery decor).
